An update on Bonnie and Amber after a collision in the round one clash against Fremantle.
The AFLW Co-Captain Bonnie Toogood and forward Amber Clarke will face time on the sidelines following a collision in the second quarter of Saturday’s game against Fremantle.
Toogood will likely miss the next 6-8 weeks after the forward suffered an MCL strain, while Clarke has entered concussion protocols after being stretchered from the field following the incident.
Clarke was diagnosed with a concussion at the ground and cleared of any neck injury. Further assessment also cleared the 19-year-old of any facial fractures.
Head of Medical Services Megan Smith said the club is disappointed for the pair.
“It’s extremely unfortunate for Bonnie and Amber to have to spend time on the sidelines. The incident was a heavy clash between the two players, with both showing extreme commitment to the ball,” Smith said.
“While we are disappointed that Bonnie will be out for a significant part of the season, we are relieved that there is no damage to her ACL. Bonnie will commence rehab with the aim of returning later in the year.
“Amber has entered concussion protocols and is recovering well. She was up and talking after being stretchered off and was further assessed in hospital Saturday night to clear any concerns of further damage. Amber’s symptoms will be monitored closely, which will determine her return to play.”
