Wrexham have faced a blow to their upcoming League One fixtures as midfielder George Evans’ injury comes to light.

George Evans made his first start of the league campaign for Wrexham on Tuesday night in their 1-0 defeat to Stevenage at Lamex Stadium. The midfielder’s night was cut short as he was forced off just before half time with an injury.

Evans has struggled for game time this season due to the impressive form of new signing George Dobson, with the midfielder only playing 105 minutes of football this season for Wrexham.

Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson will be hoping for good news as they wait to hear the full extent of the injury. Parkinson also expressed how hard Evans has worked to get back into the team which makes this injury even more frustrating.

Phil Parkinson told the BBC ‘It’s such a shame for George because he has worked hard to get back into the team.’

‘He felt something crack. I don’t know what it is, but it is a huge blow.’

Cleworth to return sooner than expected

This injury has come at the worst time for Phil Parkinson as highly rated defender Max Cleworth was forced off in last weekend’s game against Leyton Orient.

There is good news for Wrexham fans though as Parkison has explained that although his return date remains uncertain, Cleworth’s injury was ‘not as bad as we first feared.’

A manager will never want to change a comfortable back line and their back three have only conceded seven goals in nine league games so far this season. However, it will give new summer signing Dann Scarr the chance to stake a claim in the defence with his opportunities being very limited so far season.

The old saying of it never rains but it pours seems to be true regarding injuries for Wrexham, but Parkinson insists on focusing on the upcoming games and getting his side back to winning ways.

‘We have had a decent run with injuries so far this season, but one or two things have caught up with us a little bit now.’

‘We have to reassess a little bit and look ahead,’ the Wrexham boss added.

Time for Parkinson to utilise the squad

There is no doubt that Wrexham have the bodies and quality within their squad to deal with these types of injuries with the likes of Andy Cannon, Ollie Rathbone, James Jones, Elliott Lee and even James McLean available to play in the midfield.

Having depth and quality within the squad is crucial for teams, especially those fighting at the top end of the table. Therefore, when injuries do come about for key players, they are able to be replaced without affecting the team and results too heavily.

Despite their impressive start to their League One campaign, Wrexham are winless in their last two games and will be looking to change their fortunes when they face Northampton Town this Saturday at the Stōk Cae Ras.
