Liam Manning and Omer Riza both have to contend with injuries ahead of Sunday’s Severnside Derby clash.

Bristol City hope to enter the international break with some bragging rights as they host Cardiff City in the Severnside Derby on Sunday, October 6.

The Robins played to a goalless draw with Sheffield Wednesday on Wednesday, and have one less day to rest than this weekend’s opponents. Cardiff claimed their first victory of the season, defeating Millwall 1-0 courtesy of a first-half Perry Ng goal, but they remain bottom on goal difference.

Last season, Cardiff claimed a league double over City. A 2-0 win in South Wales saw Nigel Pearson’s reign come to an end, and then in March, Perry Ng scored with a header in the second-half in Liam Manning’s first taste of the fixture.

Ayman Benarous is a long-term absentee and hasn’t played a competitive game for the first-team in two months. Centre-back duo Rob Atkinson and Rob Dickie, are both out but should return after the international break or shortly after.

Atkinson hasn’t made a competitive appearance for the first-team since February 2023, when he suffered an ACL injury. He did make an appearance for the under-21s in the week however. Dickie on the other hand had a serious tear of the muscle, and should be out until around November.

Sam Bell suffered a hamstring injury against Coventry City in the Carabao Cup in the middle of August. He’s another player that Manning is unable to call upon.

Out: Ayman Benarous, Rob Dickie, Rob Atkinson, and Sam Bell.
