Krystian Bielik was withdrawn midway through Birmingham City’s defeat to Charlton Athletic
Chris Davies has confirmed Birmingham City captain Krystian Bielik sustained an ankle injury during the 1-0 defeat to Charlton Athletic.
Blues lost their unbeaten record in League One at The Valley thanks to Matty Godden’s 54th minute strike. They had earlier lost their skipper at half-time after Bielik picked up an injury.
The 26-year-old didn’t receive treatment on the field but he did stay down for a while holding his left ankle. Davies promptly replaced Bielik with Ben Davies after assessing the damage at the interval.
“Krys got a knock on his ankle,” said Davies. “I’m not sure where he’ll go with that, it didn’t look great at half-time.”
Bielik was one of three players withdrawn after a poor first half display. Keshi Anderson and ex-Charlton striker Alfie May were the others to make way for Emil Hansson and Scott Wright.
Davies explaind: “Alfie wasn’t doing anything wrong but I just felt we needed a midfielder on and another winger, with Willum going into midfield. Keshi was on a booking and I didn’t want to risk it.”
