Confirmed! Steelers QB Russell Wilson will get as starter on the team’s new roster

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson is expected to get a crack at the starting job upon his return to the lineup, ESPN’s Adam Schefter said. That was implied by Melissa Stark on Sunday Night Football when talking about Wilson’s recovery from his calf injury.

Wilson ramped up last week, taking team reps for the first time since his injury.

“We’re definitely ramping it up,” Wilson said. “It’s been good. I feel great and I’m just getting better every day. … Definitely been able to hop into the team drills and get more plays and be able to do that. That’s been great this week. Doing all the team. 11 on 11, 7 on 7, all that stuff, too. It’s been good.”

Schefter believes that Wilson will get his shot, and that the calf will finally be healthy enough to where he can play in Week 6 against the Las Vegas Raiders. It comes on the heels of a game where Justin Fields threw for just 158 passing yards. Fields has led the team to a 3-2 record to start the year.

“Russell Wilson has been getting healthier and healthier… I think he’s at the point where he’s healthy enough to play… I don’t know ultimately what the Steelers are gonna do but I do think at some point he’s gonna get a chance,” Schefter said.

Wilson posted a video of himself running on an anti-gravity treadmill on Saturday. The former Super Bowl winner is still listed as the starter on the depth chart. Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin has not made a final determination on if Wilson will start or not upon his return, but if healthy enough in Week 6, he will have to make his decision.
