The 3-2 Pittsburgh Steelers are looking to put an end to a 2-game skid against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday, who at 2-3, will be starting Aidan O’Connell at quarterback for the first time this season and won’t have Davante Adams and likely Jakobi Meyers at wide receiver for him to throw to.
It’s a matchup the Steelers can’t afford to lose, and luckily for Pittsburgh, one rookie is expected to make his debut and help the struggling offense.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler shared that wide receiver Roman Wilson is expected to be active Sunday and make his NFL debut following an ankle injury that slowed him down earlier this season.
This wide receiver room has been desperate for another weapon outside of George Pickens, which is why the Steelers keep popping up as a potential destination in the Davante Adams trade rumor mill.
Wilson is a third-round pick out of Michigan and had 789 yards and 12 touchdowns for the national champions last season.
Van Jefferson and Calvin Austin III haven’t provided much consistency at receiver alongside Pickens, but Wilson has a slightly different skill set and could potentially unlock a new element to this offense.
This is a franchise that always seems to do well when drafting wide receivers, so it will be interesting to see if Wilson can be next in line.
He’s going to have to produce some insane numbers to quiet the Adams rumors, but no matter how you look at it, Wilson getting healthy should make this offense at least a bit more dynamic and help out Justin Fields.
