STATE COLLEGE — Penn State has gone to bat for Tyler Warren to be considered in the Heisman Trophy conversation. And James Franklin did it again on Saturday.
Franklin, after Penn State clinched a spot in the Big Ten championship game, was asked about his standout tight end following the Nittany Lions’ 44-7 win over Maryland.
Warren was unstoppable, accumulating 100 total scrimmage yards (68 receiving, 32 rushing) and a touchdown against the Terrapins. He broke a couple more Big Ten and program records. And he proved yet again why he’s one of the best players in college football.
Penn State defensive end Abdul Carter thinks he should be a Heisman Trophy finalist
Penn State defensive end Abdul Carter sacked Maryland quarterback MJ Morris in the third quarter Saturday and celebrated it by striking the Heisman pose.
“I feel like there is a lot of hype and offensive players are recognized as the best player in the country, but there are also defensive players who make just as much of an impact as the best offensive players,” Carter said after the game.
“I feel like Ashton Jeanty and Travis Hunter are great players in their own respect, but I impact the game just as much if not more than them, and I feel like defensive players should start getting the same recognition and we don’t. The Heisman is the top player in the country, the best player in the country and I feel like I’m that.”
