The Michigan Wolverines have been working just as hard on the field as they have been off the field. With spring practices in full bloom, this is one of the prime times for recruits to make visits. Many of those recent visitors have left impressed with what they saw on and off the field.
Michigan looking to flip son of Miami legend
Camdin Portis is the son of former University of Miami and NFL running back Clinton Portis. The younger Portis has been committed to his father’s alma mater for quite some time, but this has not stopped Michigan defensive backs coach LaMar Morgan from pursuing the 2026 four-star cornerback.
The standout junior emerged over the past year and has picked up offers from Michigan, Florida, Ohio State and many others. He remains locked in with the Hurricanes, but made a trip north to Ann Arbor last weekend.
Portis visited this past weekend and recapped it with On3’s Ethan McDowell ($).
“It was good,” Portis said. “You can tell why they win. Even though there’s not a lot of scrappy guys, those guys are coached real well, real disciplined. So I feel like they’re still going to be set up to win in the future, for sure.”
“He’s intelligent,” Portis said of Morgan. “He’s really, really smart.”
Portis’ growing connection with the staff was the main reason he made this trip. He knows any coach can pitch a program over the phone, but seeing the school in person is different. And while getting a flip is an uphill climb, Portis is willing to visit again if he’s invited.
“If they ask me to get back up there, I’d go,” Portis said.
In-state recruit narrows down top schools even further
2026 four-star offensive lineman Gregory Patrick has visited no less than eight times, proving how interested he truly is in the Wolverines.
The Portage native — who is a Michigan State legacy — has visited Notre Dame, Michigan and Michigan State recently and told On3’s McDowell ($) that those are “probably the schools that, obviously, recruit me the hardest.”
While Michigan State may have an advantage given that family ties, that has not stopped Michigan offensive line coach Grant Newsome has still developed a strong bond with him.
“He’s pretty tough on his guys, which I like,” Patrick said. “I like a coach that’s tougher. He was tough on his guys, but you know that they take to him well. They respond to him well.”
Patrick plans to take official visits to all three schools and then make a decision in July. He will officially visited Michigan last the weekend of June 20.
Four-star RB may decide before his official visits
It’s been not secret Michigan is highly focused on obtaining the talents of 2026 four-star running back Javian Osborne. The Texas native recently reciprocated the interest by trimming his list down to two schools — Notre Dame and Michigan.
According to 247Sports’s Tom Loy ($), Osborne plans to make unofficial visits to both schools this spring, with Notre Dame playing host on April 12 and Michigan on April 19. If he still has not made up his mind after those two trips, he will take an official visit to Notre Dame on June 13 and Michigan on June 20.
It appears the Irish have the momentum at the moment, as Loy opined that Notre Dame is “trending at this time.” However, the Wolverines are doing all they can to combat the Irish and land the top-100 overall prospect.
Osborne was outstanding as a junior last fall, rushing 188 times for 1,227 yards and 22 touchdowns. That followed a sophomore season where he carried the ball 290 times for 2,231 yards and 39 scores.
