Chelsea have reportedly made contact to sign Tyler Adams, with Liverpool also believed to be interested in the Leeds United midfielder.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Blues have made their first approach for the USA international, who can leave Elland Road this summer due to a £20m relegation release clause that has been active throughout the window.

Adams was one of Leeds’ best players last season despite their relegation from the Premier League back down to the Championship, and Chelsea could now be primed to beat Liverpool to the midfielder.

The Reds have been linked with the former RB Leipzig star as one of many midfield options, yet Chelsea might now issue Liverpool with a further transfer blow if they choose to match Adams’ release clause.

Indeed, £20m for a player like Adams feels like a bargain in this market, and whilst the 24-year-old might not be a starter for either Liverpool or Chelsea, the Leeds star’s versatility will make the American a useful squad player.

Adams might not be the first name to standout for who Liverpool should be moving for in the market, but the American international offers a lot of what the Reds are looking for this summer.

An experienced defensive midfielder with the ability to play at right-back, Adams could be a dream signing for Liverpool as a replacement for Fabinho, yet Chelsea could now ruin the party.

With the Blues now in contact to sign Adams, there’s a strong chance that Chelsea could secure a deal with Leeds for the midfielder, with Liverpool once again left picking up the pieces in the market.
