Postecoglou begins brutal Tottenham cull as Conte leadership pair first to be shown door.

Ange Postecoglou is reportedly ready to sanction the exits of Tottenham leadership pair Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Eric Dier, along with Davinson Sanchez.

Other than Harry Kane, nobody at Spurs covered themselves in glory this season. The forward bagged 30 Premier League goals – the second time he’s achieved that feat in his career.

Given that’s not far from half the 70 top-flight goals Tottenham scored, it shows Kane carried his side.

They didn’t fare too well at the back, either. Only five sides conceded more than the 63 goals that were put past Tottenham – three of them were relegated, and all were in the bottom six.

New manager Postecoglou will have a lot to do in order to see his side bounce back from the poor season they endured.

Moves already seem to be being made on the inbound front. Talks with David Raya over personal terms appear to be going well, and Spurs are reportedly set to enter into negotiations with Brentford over the transfer.

A potential move for Jadon Sancho has also been reported, in a deal that could cost £50million. James Maddison is also a long-term target of the north London outfit.

All of those stars, on their day, would be great assets for Postecoglou to call upon.

Postecoglou ready to ditch Dier, Hojbjerg

The manager will also not be afraid to ditch players that he feels won’t be useful. Two regulars that were part of previous boss Antonio Conte’s leadership team will reportedly be shown the door.

Indeed, 90min reports Dier and Hojbjerg ‘will be allowed to leave’. The sale of Dier, specifically, would be a statement from the manager that if players aren’t pulling their weight, nobody is safe.

Indeed, he’s been in talks over a new deal, given his current contract runs out next summer. He’s a leader at the club, having been there since 2014.

Hojbjerg hasn’t served for as long, but is also a senior player. Both were fixtures of the side under Conte – Dier missed just two league games this season while the Italian was still at the club, while Hojbjerg missed only one in that same period.

As such, there would be a changing of the guard if those players were to leave.

Sanchez also allowed to leave

However, with not a lot of players having pulled their weight, it seems fair for Postecoglou to want to start fresh. Sanchez is another player the manager does not want.

His Tottenham career never really got off the ground, and he played just 18 league games this season. That he couldn’t get into a struggling side showed his future was bleak at best.

He does have suitors, with La Liga side Sevilla reportedly interested.

It’ll be a bonus for Postecoglou to be able to make money from a player he didn’t really want anyway.
