Tottenham are hoping to improve their goalkeeping department with the signing of Giorgi Mamardashvili.
The Valencia goalkeeper has done quite well in the Spanish league and his performances have attracted the attention of a number of clubs.
According to Radio Marca, a number of English clubs are thought to be keeping tabs on the player and ‘interest has arrived’ from Tottenham, Aston Villa, Chelsea, Brighton, Burnley and Manchester United.
The aforementioned clubs are yet to hold a formal meeting with the player’s representatives or Valencia and it remains to be seen whether the likes of Tottenham come forward with a concrete proposal.
Spurs will have to sign a quality replacement for Hugo Lloris and the 22-year-old La Liga goalkeeper would be a solid, long-term investment.
Despite Valencia’s struggles this past season, Mamardashvili has impressed with his performances and he is certainly good enough to play in the Premier League.
The goalkeeper has a contract with the Spanish club until the summer of 2026 and there is a €100 million release clause in his contract. However, the report from Radio Marca claims that the goalkeeper has a market value of around €50 million, but he is likely to be available for far less. Apparently, the 22-year-old could be signed for a fee of around €20-25 million this summer.
Signing Mamardashvili for that price could prove to be a major bargain and he has the potential to improve further with coaching and experience.
It remains to be seen whether Tottenham can fend off the competition from their Premier League rivals and get the deal done.
