Everton are reportedly long-term admirers of Nottingham Forest attacker Brennan Johnson, but have Brentford and Aston Villa keen on him too.

According to the Athletic on 15 June, the Bees have submitted a £30million bid to sign the Wales international this summer.

However, that’s expected to be turned down as Nottingham Forest will be looking for at least £50million to part ways with one of the best young assets.

Too expensive

Everton can least afford to pay that kind of money for Johnson and it will be surprising if they end up in a transfer bidding war.

The Toffees also will not be looking for a marquee wide attacker primarily as they need someone who can play down the middle and score goals regularly.

While Johnson can feature as a number nine, he’s at his best when deployed out wide and that’s the only reason clubs will be spending that kind of money on him.

He was also billed as “Magnificent” by Matt Holland on Premier League Productions [5 March, 14:42] after his performance against the Toffees.

However, with Villa and Brentford clearly having the propensity to spend more and are currently in a better position than Everton, one can forget about his arrival at Goodison Park.

Sean Dyche will be urging the board to bring him a new striker as soon as possible with Bedo from Udinese understood to be their primary target and it’s said that Everton are leading the race to secure his services.
