Coventry City picked up a point in the 1-1 draw against Swansea City on Saturday afternoon.
Matty Godden broke the deadlock on 39 minutes before Jerry Yates equalised, two minutes later. City dominated the game for large spells but were unable to convert their chances and continue their momentum following the 3-0 win over Middlesbrough in the previous weekend.
The Sky Blues completely switched off after scoring the opening goal. They failed to adjust straight after Godden’s strike, and were made to pay.
After the game, Robins told CoventryLive of the goal conceded: “The disappointing thing for me was the goal that we conceded, it was really poor, it was really soft. We just got our noses in front and then it was just a case of not reorganising quickly enough.
“I think if we defend that properly then we come away and win the game. Not just one nil but you can go and win the game two, three nil.
“Those are the margins so it’s got to be something that we’re disappointed in.”
Keeping hold of the ball longer
The visitors recorded a total of 603 passes in the game to Swansea’s 407. It is an improvement and encouragement for the side ahead of the next fixtures.
Midfielder Josh Eccles said: “That’s the first time I’ve been involved at Swansea away and we’ve had the majority of the ball and that’s what we’re trying to do this year, keep the ball for longer and play from the back through the midfield and obviously use the strikers that have got a real talent.”
Important to convert chances
The Sky Blues created 11 attempts, while some of those fell to the visitors with Haji Wright who was unfortunate not to score. Those chances went begging as the side struggled to convert them.
After a defeat, win and a draw in the opening three games, Robins has emphasised the importance of making those chances count. “We’ve got to pick up points while we’re going, that’s the key,” the Sky Blues boss said.
“But when we’ve started to work together a bit longer, I think you’ll see a different side. More confidence, more fluidity and hopefully more goals, more chances.”
More players needed
With two weeks remaining of the window, Robins hinted that Coventry must sign more players that can have an impact on the game. “I just think that we’re tired and the fact that I’ve not got the players that need to change things, took its toll really,” he told CoventryLive when reflecting on the 1-1 draw at Swansea City.
