Everton have made an approach to sign Tottenham defender Japhet Tanganga who is looking to seal a move away this summer, according to Interlive.it.
According to the Italian media outlet (21 August), fellow Premier League outfit Luton Town have also made an approach and are pushing to sign Tanganga on loan who wants to quickly seal his exit after “unsatisfactory seasons” in North London.
The Hatters have been on pole position but in the last few days, Everton have joined the race to seal Tanganga’s signature and have made an approach with further developments expected soon.
“According to the information collected by Interlive.it, the newly promoted Luton continues to push for the loan purchase of the London-born central player and is looking for greater continuity of employment after unsatisfactory seasons in the ranks of the ‘Spurs’.
“Luton are on pole for the 24-year-old, but in the last few days – as Interlive.it further learned – another Premier League club has moved for Tottenham’s centre-back: Everton, the report writes.
Everton were absolutely disastrous in their 4-0 defeat to Aston Villa on Sunday 20 August, conceding needless and easy goals despite possessing the experience of Michael Keane and James Tarkowski at the back.
Two players who have been expected to lead by example and further solidify a team has been desperately lacking in quality for a long time, and their performance will certainly hand Sean Dyche major worries moving forward.
With just over a week left of the transfer window, not only will the Toffees be scouring the market for attacking reinforcements but they will do incredibly well to sign another centre-back too and Tanganga represents a decent and cheap opportunity to exploit.
The wantaway Tottenham defender has endured a tough few seasons in the first team in North London and is in desperate need of some first-team opportunities elsewhere to discover himself again.
The 24-year-old should not be judged on his struggles at the club and should he get back to his best self again, he could turn out to be a sensible and brilliant pick-up for any so-called smaller side in the Premier League.
And given Everton’s need for pace, defensive enthusiasm and added strength in the back-line, Tanganga is certainly there to be snapped up.
