Reported Liverpool target Andre Trindade has admitted that he’s ‘happy’ to hear rumours linking him with a transfer this summer.
Andre has been one of the names most frequently mentioned as Liverpool look to complete some late business over the coming days.
But in quotes from Brazilian outlet Globo, the 22-year-old says he’s still fully focused on Fluminense.
“It’s obvious that it’s normal to come up with proposals,” Andre explained. “Even more so with the team well, passing the stage in Conmebol Libertadores, at the top of the Brasileirao. Not only for me, but it must have come to others as well.
“I am happy for the proposals that arrive, but my head today is focused 100% on Fluminense.”
Andre confirms transfer stance
Like with much of Liverpool’s transfer window, the Reds’ pursuit of Andre is a hard one to square right now.
Not because the Brazil international isn’t a good player. The reasons for them wanting to bring him to Anfield are pretty clear.
But rather, the way Liverpool are going about things is decidedly weird.
As Andre mentions, Fluminense are doing pretty well right now. They actually have a massive Copa Libertadores quarter-final first-leg coming up tonight. As a result, they don’t want to let him go until their season ends in December. That is fair enough, and something Liverpool will have factored in.
Nevertheless, they have reportedly been trying to get him now anyway. ESPN Brasil claimed on Tuesday night that the Reds have seen a £26m bid turned down by Fluminense.
But that isn’t the weird part. The weird part is that ESPN also claimed that Liverpool will not return for Andre in January if they can’t get him now. With a cheaper price-tag on his head in the New Year and the player already convinced about joining, that’s a difficult one to understand.
Should Fluminense crash out of the Libertadores next week, maybe their stance will change. For now though, Andre seems to be slipping away.
