Chelsea hold further talks with Roma over £7m loan fee for Romelu Lukaku… as the Belgian is asked to slash his salary.

Chelsea held further talks with Roma on Sunday as they try to agree a loan fee around £7m for Romelu Lukaku.

The 30-year-old is being asked to take a £7m cut to his annual salary of £17m.

The Blues have been attempting to move the Belgian on from the club throughout the summer but have faced stumbling blocks on many potential transfers.

Lukaku is not in new Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino‘s plans and the Belgian has been in talks with several clubs.

The Belgian forward had admitted he was ‘nervous’ as a deal edges closer to completion.

Should a deal be completed, Lukaku would play under Roma boss Jose Mourinho at a third club.

Lukaku previously played under Mourinho during first first spell at Chelsea, before reuniting at Manchester United.

Chelsea, who have completed the signing of goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic from New England Revolution on a seven year contract, want another forward this week.

Pochettino insisted last week that Chelsea will only move for the ‘right profile’ of player.

The Blues are currently without the injured Christopher Nkunku, Armando Broja and Carney Chukwuemeka.

Pochettino said: ‘It’s easy to say we need maybe another offensive player but I think we have offensive players that need to recover.

‘If you now bring some players that maybe are not fit or need to adapt to the Premier League maybe you are going to spend the same time that you need to wait for Broja, Nkunku or for Carney and then you’re going to create a mess for the squad.

‘That’s why we’re trying to work really hard to analyse every single situation and try to take the best decision.

‘We are trying to find the right profile. The most important is the profile of the player that we need to add that after is not going to be a problem when we recover all these players.’
