Nottingham Forest made an ambitious attempt to sign Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat but the player wants to move to Manchester United. The Reds had struck an agreement for the midfielder with the Serie A outfit but the player quickly rejected the move.
According to TV Dello Sport, the Reds were keen to flex their ambition. Amrabat was the subject of a £17 million bid from Forest and Fiorentina were pretty satisfied with the terms of their proposal.
Amrabat will be on the move during the summer transfer window. United are pressing hard to get the deal over the line, with the Red Devils keen to sign the Morocco international before the window slams shut.
The 27-year-old will be out of contract with Fiorentina next summer. The Serie A club do have an option to extend that deal by another year but ultimately, they appear resigned to letting him go this summer.
Amrabat has been with Fiorentina since 2020 when he signed from Hellas Verona. He has become a truly sound midfielder during his time at the club, making 107 appearances for the club.
Last year, Amrabat was a key part of the Morocco team at the World Cup. He took his tally of appearances for his country to 49, helping the Atlas Lions become the first African side in history to reach the semi-finals.
Forest made ambitious move for Amrabat
When Morocco beat Spain in the last 16 of the World Cup, their boss Luis Enrique called the player ‘extraordinary’ for his efforts against his own team.
Now, it looks as though Amrabat is going to make a truly huge move this summer. United are desperate to bolster their midfield ranks and the 27-year-old has a lot to offer.
It’s hard to knock the ambition shown by Forest with this one. However, it looks nothing more than a pipedream and thankfully, the club has quickly moved on to other targets.
