Man City transfer news: Fabrizio Romano details how close Mateo Kovacic move is now.

It has now been reported that Manchester City and Chelsea are yet to reach an agreement over a fee for Mateo Kovacic to leave the club.

This comes from Fabrizio Romano on his official YouTube channel, after it was recently claimed that the £40 million (Sky Sports) man is ‘keen’ on joining the treble winners.

It seems like the only ongoing hold-up is that Manchester City and Chelsea are yet to agree over a fee for Mateo Kovacic to sign for Pep Guardiola’s men.

Fabrizio Romano: Manchester City are ‘final millions’ away from Mateo Kovacic transfer

The Croatian international has previously been reported to have a huge admirer of his in none other than Pep Guardiola for five years.

With one year left on his contract at Stamford Bridge, alongside Ilkay Gundogan and Bernardo Silva’s futures being uncertain, a transfer looks like it is on the cards.

Now, Fabrizio Romano has reported that all that is left for Mateo Kovacic to sign for Manchester City is if both clubs reach a final agreement over a fee.

“Really close, the agreement between Manchester City and Chelsea. It’s about some final details to be verified, final millions between the clubs and then Mateo Kovacic will become a new Manchester City player as it’s very clear that he’s not going to extend the contract with Chelsea.”

“Kovacic agreed personal terms with City days and days ago, I told you. So now, the deal is imminent.”

Mateo Kovacic fits the Pep Guardiola way

If Mateo Kovacic can stay fit at Manchester City, which has been a major problem for him at Chelsea, he has all the attributes to thrive under Pep Guardiola.

Technically, the former Real Madrid midfielder is one of the best in the world, without question.

In terms of replacing a player like Bernardo Silva, while he may not be on the latter’s level yet, his ball-carrying and ball-winning abilities are of a similarly tremendous standard.

Kovacic is also adept at controlling games, which is synonymous with both Bernardo and Gundogan and would look like an even better player in a possession-driven system.
