Pochettino is really thinking about keeping two 20-year-old Chelsea youngsters in the first-team squad now.

Mauricio Pochettino could now keep Bashir Humphreys and Mason Burstow involved in first-team duties at Chelsea after they impressed the Argentine in pre-season.

That is according to the Evening Standard.

So, what is the situation involving Mason Burstow and Bashir Humphreys at Chelsea? Let’s take a look

Well, the duo have emerged as surprise positives from Chelsea’s pre-season tour of the United States.

Humphreys and Burstow took their chances to impress Pochettino while playing in America, with the latter even scoring a late equaliser in the 1-1 draw against Borussia Dortmund.

The 20-year-old duo have since been named on the bench in all three of Chelsea’s Premier League outings so far this season.

Humphreys is yet to play in the Premier League this season, although Pochettino has introduced Burstow in the 3-1 loss to West Ham and also the 3-0 win over Luton.

The London-born striker has played eight Premier League minutes in total this season.

While the pair are likely to stay at Stamford Bridge, the Evening Standard do mention that Chelsea would be open to loan exits if Pochettino feels it could be more beneficial to their development.

Burstow and Humphreys update should please Chelsea fans

In our view, this development should put a smile on the faces of Chelsea fans.

Chelsea often overlook academy graduates in favour of expensive imports – that was apparent when Marc Guehi was allowed to leave in place of the £70m Wesley Fofana, while Tammy Abraham was also let go in favour of the £97.5m Romelu Lukaku.

However, Pochettino seems to hold more interest in developing young talent than other Chelsea managers have in the past, and there is nothing like seeing academy graduates turning out for the first-team as far as supporters are concerned.

Hopefully, Burstow and Humphreys can grow into effective first-team players under the Argentine’s guidance after a promising start to life working with the South American.
