Wolves are in Premier League action today, with Crystal Palace the opponents.

Wanderers make their first trip to the capital this season, and are looking to build on last weekend’s win over Everton.

Wolves are thrashed Blackpool in midweek in the Carabao Cup.

And after some decent business at the end of the transfer window, there is a feeling of optimism going into today’s game.

Gary O’Neil has only been in the job for a few weeks and needs time to really put his stamp on the team.

But the early indicators have been promising.

Hopefully Wolves can pick up points today – but pundit Paul Merson doesn’t believe that will happen…

Paul Merson makes prediction for Crystal Palace vs Wolves

Crystal Palace have given Wolves trouble in recent times.

Palace have won four of the last five Premier League meetings between the two clubs, although Wanderers did win last time out in April at Molineux.

In the eyes of Merson, Palace will edge today’s contest.

Predicting a 1-0 win for the home side, he said (via Sportskeeda): “Wolves eked out a great result against Everton last week but they rode their luck. Everton missed a lot of chances in that game but it was a big result nonetheless for Wolves.

“Crystal Palace had a good result too, holding Brentford to a 1-1 draw. I see both these sides being bottom half sides and these are games they can’t afford to lose to each other.

“Jean-Philippe Mateta scored a hat-trick for Palace in the League Cup against Plymouth Argyle and it should boost his confidence. He could be a decisive factor in this game.”

Wolves rode their luck against Everton, but it’s swings and roundabouts

Merson is probably right to say Wolves rode their luck against Everton.

Jose Sa had to be at his very best at Goodison Park, and the Toffees should have scored at least one goal.

But they didn’t and it’s swings and roundabouts because Wolves should have gotten three points against Manchester United in the first game.

Today’s match at Selhurst Park will be tough for Wolves.

It has not been a particularly happy hunting ground in recent times.

But we shall see if Wolves can pull something out of the bag. It’s encouraging that both Fabio Silva and Sasa Kalajdzic have been amongst the goals in the last week.
