The signing of Cole Palmer from Manchester City took Chelsea’s spending under new owner Todd Boehly over the £1billion mark.

Chelsea have seriously splashed the cash in three transfer windows since Boehly and Clearlake Capital took over from previous owner Roman Abramovich.

They have signed young players on long-term deals, setting their squad up for the future, as well as the here and now. Twenty-four players have signed permanently in that time, with a couple having already left the club – Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Kalidou Koulibaly.

The squad has undergone a massive overhaul, while in the dugout, things have changed drastically and regularly too. Chelsea went through four managers last season before handing former Spurs boss Pochettino the reins in the summer.

Chelsea have managed to ship some players out in the summer transfer window, giving Pochettino a more manageable squad to deal with, but 11 players did come in with more than £380million spent.

Previous problems remain, however, with the loss to Nottingham Forest at Stamford Bridge on Saturday highlighting that. Chelsea had 76% possession and 21 shots on goal, but ended up losing 1-0 to an Anthony Elanga strike.

Profligacy in front of goal remains an issue, and the Blues have been told they could have solved all of their problems without signing a bucketload of players, instead needing just two.
