Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips has been linked with Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool, and Anfield legend Steven Gerrard seems to be a big fan of him.

Liverpool legend Gerrard has said that Kalvin Phillips, who has been linked with Jurgen Klopp’s side, has got “ high-class quality” and expects him to get back to his best for Manchester City next season.

Gerrard made the comments about Phillips on Channel 4 (9:56pm, June 19, 2023) after watching him in action for England against North Macedonia at Old Trafford in UEFA Euro 2024 qualifying Group C on Monday evening.

The 27-year-old former Leeds United star scored in the 64th minute.

England won 7-0.

The Daily Star reported in April that Liverpool are interested in signing Phillips from Manchester City in the summer transfer window.

The report claimed that Liverpool manager Klopp personally wants the former Leeds midfielder at Elland Road.

The Merseyside club are reportedly willing to pay £35 million for the £160,000-a-week (SalarySport) England international.

Steven Gerrard on Liverpool target Kalvin Phillips

Gerrard said about Phillips: “I think that will give him motivation as well to come back and have a real strong pre-season.

“He will have had a frustrating season, but we all know he has got high-class quality.

“He will be desperate to go the Euros next season, and he will do that by having a fantastic season at Man City.”

Liverpool should bid

In our view, Liverpool should at least try to sign Kalvin Phillips from Premier League rivals Manchester City in the summer transfer window.

Gerrard is one of the greatest midfielders of all time, and the former England international star’s comments on Phillips show just how good he is.

Now, of course, treble winners City may not want to sell Phillips to Liverpool, but what’s the harm in the Reds putting in a bid?
