Swansea City’s Under-21 team defeated Coventry City at the CBS Arena to earn their first away victory of the campaign. Debutant Kristian Fletcher’s last-second header sealed the comeback in the second half.

The Swans took the lead in the first five minutes thanks to a fantastic 30-yard strike from Mitchell Bates.

Justin Obikwu appeared to have given Coventry the three points with goals either side of halftime, but the young Swans had other plans.

There had been just one change to the starting XI that claimed victory over Hull City at the Swansea.com Stadium last time out for the visitors, with Filip Lissah coming in for Harry Jones, while Fletcher – loan arrival from DC United – was named on the bench.

There was also a welcome return for Ben Lloyd and Ruben Davies after spells on the sideline due to injury

After scoring twice against Hull City, Wilson connected with the in-form Sam Parker during the Swans’ quick start, but the Welshman’s shot missed the net.

Bates, a 19-year-old, pounced onto a loose ball in the middle of the field and unleashed a powerful effort into the goal, giving the Swans the lead just seconds later.

Following the break, the Sky Blues attempted to react. Coventry striker Obikwu tested Evan Watts with two long shots, but the Swans goalie had no trouble stopping both.

After exchanging half-chances, the Swans came agonizingly close to increasing their advantage when Kai Ludvigsen chipped Kian Jenkins’ low corner over the crossbar. Lissah did well on the other end to stop Marco Rus from entering the Swansea region.
