Russell Martin, a former Swansea City manager, was chosen by Saints to lead them back to the Premier League at their first attempt.

Nugent believes that Southampton is playing in a way that they are not good at after the Saints’ two consecutive humiliating losses to Sunderland and Leicester City, in which they gave up nine goals.

When compared to Leicester City, the former striker for Leicester City said that Southampton appears to have been playing in the Championship for a number of years. He also said that if he were a supporter of Southampton, he would be concerned.

Premier League: Leicester striker David Nugent has unfinished business this season | Football News | Sky SportsFor me, it just illustrates how equal the two sides are, Nugent remarked on BBC Radio Leicester.

“Obviously, both teams were demoted from the Premier League, but based on today’s match, you may imagine Southampton had been playing in this division for a while.

They are playing in a way that, in my opinion, they are not skilled enough to execute.

“You can understand why they are giving up goals because they score many more than they give up,” I said.

“I would be concerned if I were a Southampton supporter.”

With ten points from six games, Southampton is seventh in the league standings and will play Ipswich Town on Tuesday.
