Kosta Runjaic, the manager of Legia Warsaw, compared his team’s match against Aston Villa to “David versus Goliath”.
Thursday at 5:45 p.m. (kickoff), the Polish club will visit Villa for their first Europa Conference League group stage match after defeating LKS Lodz and Austria Vienna in qualifying and Midtjylland in the play-off. They have had a consistent start to the new Ekstraklasa season with four victories and two ties in their first six games.
Villa spent approximately twice as much on transfers during the summer transfer window as Legia did since the year 2000. Runjaic acknowledges that defeating Villa will be a difficult job for his team and rates Unai Emery’s squad as one of the favorites to win the tournament.
