Predictions For Premier League Gameweek Six

Once again, it’s that time of the week when I try to forecast the results of the upcoming Premier League matches. With one perfect prediction, seven correct results, and only two incorrect outcomes last week, I fared reasonably well, but not good enough to keep me from falling to fourth place in my predictions league. Here is a ranking of the top five teams in that league.

Last week, my decision to make Erling Haaland my fantasy captain paid off again as his goal helped me move up a few spots in the standings, but he really needed at least two more goals. I received points from Bernd Leno, Bukayo Saka, Julian Alvarez, and Taiwo Awoniyi in addition to Haaland, but I had hoped for more. Haaland will be my captain once again this week, although Alvarez is also a viable option.

I need to find a method to add more players like Odsonne Edouard, Moussa Diaby, Pedro Neto, and Awoniyi to my squad because they all seem like the in-form players who might be this season’s steals. Next week, Luton and Burnley each have two games, which might make Carlton Morris appealing to fantasy managers. However, with Lyle Foster suspended, I’m not sure which Burnley players to recommend.

Saturday September 23
Chelsea v Aston Villa
3pm BST, Stamford Bridge, London

Chelsea only managed a 0-0 draw against Bournemouth last week, and after only five games, they are already 10 points behind the leaders. Their lone victory thus far has come at home, and it came against the only other team without a point. They only managed two goals in their previous four games, and three of their five goals came in that victory over Luton.

The Chelsea player most likely to contribute to fantasy managers’ point totals continues to be Ben Chilwell.

Last week, Villa overcame a 1-0 deficit to defeat Palace 3-1 at home thanks to a few late goals, giving them three victories through their first five games. No other side has given up more goals on the road than they have, and they have dropped two of their three away games. Only Burnley and Wolves have given up more goals in their last four games, during which they have won three and scored a good number of goals.

Moussa Diaby is the Villa player to have for fantasy managers with Matty Cash and Ollie Watkins good options too.
I think this will be a very close game with Chelsea probably winning by a narrow margin.
Prediction: 2-1
Crystal Palace v Fulham
3pm BST, Selhurst Park, London

When Palace played Villa last week, it appeared as though they might take the three points, but they lost 3-1, moving them ahead of Fulham going into this match on goal differential. They defeated Wolves in their most recent home game, and four of their following five games are against opponents who are anticipated to finish ahead of them. They struggled to score goals last season, but they have scored four in their past two games, and they are confident they can score a few more in this game.

For fantasy managers, Odsonne Edouard is currently in excellent form, and Eberechi Eze and Joachim Andersen aren’t performing too shabbily either.

Last week, Fulham defeated Luton 1-0 at home to climb into the top half of the standings. Only Villa and Luton have given up more goals on the road than they have, despite the fact that they have earned four points from their three away games. Only Burnley and Wolves have given up more goals than them, and they have a difficult stretch of games ahead.

Bernd Leno is the Fulham player who can make a difference for fantasy managers at the moment.
I think Palace should have enough at home to take the three points in this game.
Prediction: 3-1
Luton Town v Wolverhampton Wanderers
3pm BST, Kenilworth Road, Luton

Last week, Luton suffered a 1-0 loss away to Fulham and dropped to the bottom of the standings. Although three of their next four games are at home, they are one of four clubs without a point at home. They are the only team without a point and the only team with less goals, but they will look to make up for that in their upcoming three games against three of the four teams that are directly above them in the standings.

The only Luton player that fantasy managers should take into account is Carlton Morris, mostly because he will play twice the following week.

Wolves have lost four of their first five games after leading at the half against Liverpool last week and losing 3-1 at home. Their lone victory thus far came away from home, and their next three away games will all be against opponents who have the same number of points as them or fewer. Only four other clubs have scored fewer goals than Burnley, while Burnley has given up the most goals.

Pedro Neto is the Wolves player fantasy managers should be paying attention to because no other player has accrued more assists to date.

I predict Wolves will win this game, although there won’t be many goals scored.

Prediction: 0-1
Manchester City v Nottingham Forest
3pm BST, Etihad Stadium, Manchester
City came from behind to win 3-1 away to West Ham last week to stay on top of the table with a 100% record. It was their home form which won them the title last season and they have begun this season in the same style on their own ground. They’re the only team who have won every game so far with only Brighton scoring more goals and no other team conceding less.

For fantasy managers, Rodrigo Hernandez, Phil Foden, and Erling Haaland are all essential players. Julian Alvarez is nearly as excellent.

Last week, Forest and struggling Burnley drew 1-1 at home to give them seven points from five games. They have traveled and lost to both Arsenal and United while winning at Chelsea, but this will be a much more difficult job for them. Given the schedule they had, they did quite well to accumulate seven points from their first five games.

Taiwo Awoniyi is in very good form for fantasy managers at the moment and I’m still convinced Morgan Gibbs-White will do the business very soon too.
I think Forest will offer a threat on the break, but City should win with a few goals to spare.
Prediction: 4-1
Brentford v Everton
5.30pm BST, Gtech Community Stadium, London

Last week, Brentford’s perfect start to the season came to an end as they fell 1-0 away to Newcastle. They’ve played three home games in a row in a draw, so they’ll be hoping for their first home victory in this encounter. They drew a shocking number of games last season, and it appears like they may do it again this year.

The Brentford player most likely to be of interest to fantasy managers is Bryan Mbeumo.

Everton dropped to one point and into the relegation zone last week after losing 1-0 to Arsenal at home. Since they have only earned one point thus far, it will take a lot of effort for them to get anything from this game. In the following two games after this one, they face two of the other teams that are anticipated to struggle with them, and they will be crucial games as their season progresses.

There are still no Everton players that I would suggest to fantasy managers.

I think Brentford will bounce back from their first defeat of the season to take all the points in this game.
Prediction: 3-1
Burnley v Manchester United
8pm BST, Turf Moor, Burnley

Burnley drew 1-1 with Forest on the road last week to earn their first point of the year, but it wasn’t enough to lift them out of the relegation zone. No other team has given up more goals on home soil than they have, and they have lost all three of their games. Starting with this game, they face two difficult contests in a row, but if they can win one of those contests, it can give them the lift they need.

Lyle Foster’s suspension prevents me from seeing any other Burnley players that would interest fantasy managers right now.

Last week, United suffered a 3-1 home loss to Brighton, making it three losses in as many games. They are one of just four teams without a win away from home, but their next four away contests, beginning with Burnley, are all in their favor. They have a very strong run of games coming up, but they are currently nine points off the top of the standings and cannot afford to lose any more ground.

The United players Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes should start scoring more points very soon.

It will be a tough game, but I think United just might pull off their first away victory in a long time.
