Jurgen Klopp ‘rejected chance to become Germany manager’
Prior to the DFB choosing Julian Nagelsmann as the new manager of the German national team, Jurgen Klopp reportedly declined the position.
After Hansi Flick was fired after Germany was defeated 4-1 by Japan during the most recent international break, Nagelsmann was hired on Friday.
A few days later, Germany defeated France 2-1 in Dortmund with excellent performance under Rudi Voller’s interim leadership.
Despite appointing Nagelsmann, the German FA has only offered him a deal that lasts through July 2024. Nagelsmann formerly managed Hoffenheim, RB Leipzig, and Bayern Munich.
That also happens to be the conclusion of Euro 2024, which Germany will host, possibly implying that Nagelsmann is not the long-term solution.
According to The Telegraph, Klopp is still Germany’s top candidate for the position.
Klopp apparently declined the chance to lead his own country in favor of staying at Liverpool.
Like he did from 2018 to 2022, he wants to create another Liverpool team from scratch that can contend for major English awards.
Last week, Klopp declared in an interview with RTL, “We are developing Liverpool 2.0 here. Instead of simply seeing how long it lasts, we want to truly attack again.
In the interview, Klopp expressed support for the employment of Nagelsmann, saying that despite being only 36, he is capable of handling the strain that comes with the position.
Klopp dismissed the notion that Nagelsmann might be too young for the part, saying, “Age? utterly unimportant He already has a track record of success as a coach at age 28. Eight years of experience are his. Others have that at the greatest level, which is 45 or 50.
Additionally, Klopp was very dismissive of rumors that he might leave Liverpool and join the national team in Germany, saying that he wanted to finish out his contract at Anfield.
“I owe Liverpool a duty of loyalty. Liverpool is where my heart is. The eight years cannot be skipped.
“I signed a contract here, and from what I recall, I wasn’t restrained or sedated, and I had to sign with my tongue.
After barely finishing fifth the previous season and losing out on Champions League participation, Liverpool is currently third in the Premier League, only two points behind Manchester City.
