Jaidon Anthony has lift the lid on his deadline day move to Leeds United and says he knew he’d thrive at Elland Road after experiencing the atmosphere in Bournemouth’s 4-3 defeat last season. The Cherries winger was an unused substitute during the game with Jesse Marsch’s side coming out on top in a thriller on home soil.

The 23-year-old made the move to Leeds as part of Bournemouth’s approach to sign Luis Sinisterra on loan, with Anthony heading to Yorkshire on season-long loan. It was a deal that came through at short notice with the young forward preparing for Bournemouth’s Premier League clash with Brentford.

Speaking to the Official Leeds United podcast he said: “It was a Friday, we’d travelled to Brentford and I’d trained in the morning. There was nothing about a move during the day so I was just preparing for the game as I would.

“Probably five minutes before we got to the hotel I got a call from my agent and obviously the move had come about. I had to think about it, then it was a load of phone calls during the day and it didn’t get done right until the last minute.

“I was really excited, last year I came here and experienced the crowd and I knew that I would thrive playing in that environment. I was a lover of a stadium with a good energy and it’s an exciting time to be here.

“The squad we have, everyone knows that we’ll be pushing to get that promotion but there’s a lot of teams in this league that’ll probably be saying the same, they want to go for promotion whether it’s the play-offs or automatics. I’ve come here with a goal to help here as much as possible and achieve that goal.”

I’ve never really done in terms of number [targets],” said Anthony when asked about setting himself a goal tally. “I feel like I want to create chances, I feel like I’m the type of player that creates chances and scores goals.

“I’ve a goal to score as many as possible and I don’t want to set a limit or set one too high the other way. I just want to help the team as much as possible in terms of creating and scoring, but also the other side in working hard for the team.”
