Liverpool are readying an opening bid to sign Juventus forward Federico Chiesa.
Chiesa has been linked with a move to Anfield having fallen out of favour with Juve manager Max Allegri. And according to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Reds are now ready to make their move.
They claim that an offer of around £34m is being prepared by Liverpool. However, this will fall short of the Old Lady’s valuation of the 25-year-old. They’re said to be looking for more like £52m to sell Chiesa.
If the Reds don’t meet that, then it’s seemingly possible that somebody else will. Bayern Munich, Chelsea and PSG are all said to be ‘monitoring’ the Italian.
But it seems that Liverpool are currently the club most likely to put a concrete offer on the table. Jurgen Klopp’s admiration of Chiesa is said to be ‘no secret,’ while the Reds have reportedly been moving ‘under the radar’ on the deal so far.
With Chiesa claimed to be open to the move and Juventus happy to see him leave, it’s said that a move could well take place in the second part of the transfer window. If Liverpool do make their £34m opening salvo, the conversation will reportedly officially open.
Liverpool readying Chiesa offer
We’d probably take this report with a pinch of salt, but it still something that we’d like to see happen.
With Liverpool seemingly at a crossroads in their midfielder search, it would be great to see them make a genuine move for a forward.
His status may have taken a hit in the last couple of years, but Chiesa is still a top player. Versatile across the forward line and still with room to improve, the former Fiorentina man could be the perfect squad addition.
Initially, he wouldn’t usurp any of Klopp’s current options. But with Mohamed Salah set to be away for AFCON in the New Year, there’s going to be an opening there for someone. Chiesa could be the man to fill that gap, now and in the future.
He clearly wants away from Juventus and they’re happy to cash in on him, too. If a price could be agreed somewhere in-between these two valuations, it would be a good deal for both clubs.
But, yes, we still don’t see it happening. Liverpool seem to have a very strict budget this season and most of it needs to go towards revamping the midfield. After that, the defence needs some attention. The forward line is the lowest priority right now.
Nevertheless, if Klopp and Liverpool see an opportunity in the market they can surprise us. Chiesa could be that opportunity.
