Chelsea and other clubs may run into a problem if they want to sign Evan Ferguson from Brighton & Hove Albion next summer.
Speaking on The Debrief, Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Brighton’s “plan is to keep him” for at least another season.
Earlier this year, The Sun reported that Chelsea were interested in Evan Ferguson going into this summer’s transfer window.
However, in the end, nothing materialised and Nicolas Jackson was the only striker who arrived at Stamford Bridge.
According to FootballTransfers, Brighton value Ferguson at around £100m, so when they do decide to sell him, it does not look like he is going to be cheap.
Evan Ferguson the real deal
Ferguson looks destined to become a top striker. He is only 18 years of age and has already scored four goals in eight top-flight appearances this season.
The Republic of Ireland international already stands at 6 ft 2 so has the height of your typical Premier League centre-forward.
The above does not mean he is worth £100m, though. It would be a huge gamble for Chelsea to spent that kind of money on him.
There is obviously no guarantee that Ferguson will actually be able to fulfil his potential.
A safer bet would be someone like Brentford’s Ivan Toney or Napoli’s Victor Osimhen. We think their names are likely to be higher than Ferguson’s on the Blues’ list.
Jackson and Armando Broja are four years older than the Brighton man but are still quite young at 22. With that in mind, then, it makes more sense for Chelsea to buy a more proven and experienced No.9, as they already have a couple of young and talented players in that position.
