According to a report from The Sun, it has been suggested that Chelsea have reached an agreement to transfer Romelu Lukaku to Roma for £37 million at the conclusion of the season. The Belgian striker made a loan move to the Italian capital from Stamford Bridge in August. The 30-year-old was notably absent from Chelsea’s pre-season preparations and is unlikely to feature for the club in the future.

Lukaku’s Impressive Numbers For Roma This Season

He has made an explosive beginning to his tenure at Roma after producing some impressive displays in front of the goal. The Belgium international has found the net on seven occasions in just eight appearances across all competitions.

He has been a reliable force in Roma’s attacking department as he is averaging 2.5 shots, 0.5 key passes and 0.7 dribbles per game in the Serie A. He has also been efficient while distributing the ball after completing 76.5% of his attempted passes in the Italian top flight (stats via whoscored).

Good Decision From Chelsea Boss Mauricio Pochettino?

Lukaku’s impact continues to be significant in the offensive domain, showcasing his proficiency as a prolific goal-scorer inside the penalty box. The experienced striker demonstrates a keen sense of positioning, enabling him to exploit opportunities created by his teammates effectively and convert them with efficiency when in top form.

Given Christopher Nkunku’s extended absence at Stamford Bridge due to surgery following his injury in the club’s pre-season friendly against Borussia Dortmund, Lukaku could have been in contention for a place in the attacking lineup. However, the Belgians striker was sent on loan to Roma due to the growing tension between him and the club.

A permanent transfer to Roma would benefit both parties, as Lukaku has regained his form, and Roma is content with his performance. Although the West London club could have recalled him to Stamford Bridge, doing so would be unjust considering their previous treatment of him as an outcast.
