Real Madrid might have done a great job in recent years when it comes to identifying and developing talents from around the world, but the same cannot be said about their ability to promote players from their own youth academy into the senior team. That has resulted in many of them leaving in search of first-team football elsewhere.
Some have failed to make their mark. While others have succeeded. Real Madrid have even brought some back.
Fran Garcia was signed from Rayo Vallecano in the summer. Another one of their former players that Los Blancos were believed to be keeping an eye on is Miguel Gutierrez. But it looks like Arsenal are after his signature now.
As reported by Defensa Central (via The Hard Tackle), Arsenal are willing to fork out a €40 million transfer fee to sign Gutierrez. The Premier League club are keen on the Girona full-back, who dreams of returning to Real Madrid.
Arsenal ready €40 million offer for former Real Madrid player
Gutierrez is someone who has clearly managed to impress since leaving Real Madrid. Girona are surprisingly second in the La Liga table right now and the left-back has played his part in making that possible.
There is believed to be a release clause of around €40 million in Gutierrez’s current deal with Girona. On the other hand, there are suggestions that Real Madrid have a 50% sell-on clause as well as the right of first refusal.
Los Blancos are expected to look for a left-back next summer as well. Garcia has not really impressed since coming in, with his performances being inconsistent. On the other hand, it seems only a matter of time before Ferland Mendy ends up leaving.
Alphonso Davies is rumoured to be Real Madrid’s top target at left-back. Could they try to bring back Gutierrez?
