Spurs benefit as key player sits out of first-round international match this month.

Tottenham Hotspur skipper Son Heung-min was on the bench for South Korea vs Tunisia

Following Harry Kane’s exit in the summer, South Korean ace Son Heung-min has taken a more prominent role as not just the chief goalscorer but also the new skipper.

He has embraced both responsibilities well, leading the club to top spot in the Premier League, while also bagging the Premier League Player of the Month award for September for himself. His importance to Ange Postecoglou cannot be understated.

Son occupies a similarly important position for his national team, something that South Korean manager and former Tottenham cult hero Jurgen Klinsmann recognizes. It was thus expected that he would play a starring role for them against Tunisia in the friendly held on Friday.

Injuries are a major concern during these breaks, opften putting teams in much jeopardy. At 31, Son isn’t getting any younger and fans would have been crossing their fingers all night, hoping he came out of the game unscathed

Klinsmann’s side next face Vietnam in a friendly on 17 October. Hopefully, Son isn’t risked in yet another glorified international game of little consequence. Spurs play London rivals Fulham on 23rd October and it is imperative that Son and other travelling stars are well rested going into the game.

Hopefully, we can continue the string of impressive performances and retain our position as title hopefuls wqhen the season resumes. Should that happen, Son will have a huge role to play in where we ultimately end up.

Thankfully, there was little to be concerned about as Klinsmann opted to start the Spurs star on the bench. South Korea romped home to a 4-0 win with Son playing no part in the proceedings on the pitch.

Son was a doubt to face Luton Town before the international break as he struggled with an injury. It is fair to say that we could not have asked for more from Klinsmann against Tunisia.
