It would appear that Sheffield Wednesday player Momo Diaby is back on the grass as he steps up his rehabilitation. The 27-year-old gave a good account of himself against Preston in August but limped off after 65 minutes.

At the time, no details were given on his injury. The only advice that Xisco Munoz gave to the press was that he would be out for a lengthy period of time, with the player not named in the 25-man squad.

Diaby was a summer addition to the Wednesday squad. He checked in on a season-long loan from Portuguese outfit Portimonense and now he looks to be starting his rehab back at Middlewood Road.

Diaby spotted back on the grass in Wednesday training

It goes without saying that there is a lot of work for Diaby to do. He’s been spotted around Hillsborough wearing a protective boot, according to The Star, and that might imply that something had been broken.

Joe Crann who has delivered this update is a man on the pulse though with all things Wednesday. His article in The Star clearly shows Diaby deep in conversation with a coach and is seemingly about to begin some kind of fitness work.

Diaby will be hoping to step up his fitness and this could be the first stage of a lengthy rehabilitation. Nobody seems to have a timescale on his recovery and as a result, it’s unclear when he’ll be able to play.

Diaby has long road ahead

There are reasons to be cautious here for Wednesday fans. Just because the protective boot is off and he’s back doing some running on the grass, it doesn’t mean he will be back with his teammates straight away.

Diaby will have to get fit all over again and this is the first stage of his process. However, it’s a positive step that he can get back out on the training pitch and at least get the ball rolling towards a return.

The player might not be able to play for Wednesday before January anyway. If Danny Rohl hands Marvin Johnson the 25th and final spot in the Owls’ squad, Diaby will have to wait to be registered.
