Max Wober was one of a number of first-team players to leave Elland Road on loan following relegation. The Austria international had only joined in January, but completed a season-long loan switch to Borussia Monchengladbach.
Wober has clearly made a swift impact with the Bundesliga side though, according to Rheinische Post via SportWitness. The title claims the defender was brought in to fill an ‘important gap’ in the side, and has so far proven ‘no shoes are too big’ for the loanee.
The report goes on to suggest that Gladbach’s chances of signing Wober on a permanent deal depend upon whether or not Daniel Farke successfully leads his side to promotion. The club made a deal for Julian Weigl permanent in the summer for a fee in the region of £6million, although at this stage there is no indication how much Leeds would be demanding to sanction a sale.
Phillips admission
It is safe to say things have not gone according to plan for Kalvin Phillips at Manchester City so far. Injuries plagued the midfielder during the treble-winning campaign last term, and the 27-year-old has fallen further down the pecking order judging by Pep Guardiola’s recent team selections in the absence of Rodri.
Phillips started in England’s Euro 2024 qualifier victory over Italy on Tuesday night despite his lack of game-time at club level. However, the former Whites star admits he has a decision to make over his future with the summer tournament in mind.
Phillips told reporters: “I know that I need to be playing games and competing every weekend. I’m going to have to make a decision on [my future] over the next months.”
He later added: “He [Gareth Southgate] just says that for me to keep my spot I have to be playing games. That’s what I want to do. I have agreed with Gareth on that.”
