Wests Tigers winger Jakiya Whitfeld has confirmed that she will be heading to Townsville next season.

Wests Tigers winger Jakiya Whitfeld has confirmed that she will be heading to Townsville next season after today joining the Australia Jillaroos squad for the Pacific Championships.

Whitfeld’s selection caps a stellar second year in the NRLW where she played all nine games in Wests Tigers’ inaugural season.

The 22-year-old was also a standout performer last month for the Australian PM’s XIII, running in four tries in Papua New Guinea.

It was also announced on Friday afternoon that Whitfeld will be joining North Queensland Cowboys next season.

Wests Tigers NRLW coach Brett Kimmorley has congratulated Whitfeld on her national selection.

“Jakiya had a wonderful first season with Wests Tigers and it’s terrific that she has been selected for the Jillaroos,” said Kimmorley.

“As we know, the NRLW salary cap is designed in such a way to spread the best talent across the competition.

“This will continue to evolve as the competition expands in the coming years but right now this is a great opportunity for Jakiya.

“Salary cap pressures, together with her desire to play fullback, has resulted in her moving to Townsville.

“Again, I want to thank Jakiya for 2023, and wish her the very best with the Jillaroos.

“All of our girls who have gained national selection should be very proud of their achievements.”
