Arsenal have received a major blow in their pursuit of the 25-year-old Aston Villa central midfielder Douglas Luiz.
According to a report by 90min, Arsenal are interested in the services of Douglas Luiz. The Gunners are looking to sign a midfielder in the winter transfer window and they have their eyes on the 25-year-old. Mikel Arteta is a huge admirer of the Aston Villa midfielder and would love to have him at his disposal.
Luiz came through the ranks at Vasco da Gama. After making a name for himself while playing for the Brazilian club, Manchester City acquired his services in the summer of 2017. He was a part of the club for the next two years but he never featured for them and was out on loan due to work permit issues.
He joined Aston Villa in the summer of 2019 and has gone from strength to strength since. He has taken his game to the next level since the arrival of Unai Emery. And, his impressive performances have attracted a lot of attention.
The 25-year-old has featured in 14 matches this season and has contributed towards six goals. He has been in red-hot form and that is why some of the biggest clubs want to sign him.
Arsenal are one of the clubs keen on having him in their ranks. The Gunners wanted to sign him back in the summer of 2022. They submitted three bids for his services and their final bid was worth £25 million. Despite that, they couldn’t strike a deal with Aston Villa as they were keen on having him in their ranks for years to come.
The Gunners have retained their interest in the services of the Brazilian international. Mikel Arteta is a huge fan of the player. He is well aware of the 25-year-old’s potential having worked with him during his days at City. Arteta is now keen on having him in his ranks at Arsenal.
The north London club will make a move for his services in the summer. But, they still might not get their hands on the Villa midfielder. Unai Emery’s team have no intentions of selling him. He is a key component of their team and his contract runs until the summer of 2026. Even the player is committed to the club.
