Ange Postecoglou says £17m Tottenham player did too much work last night but he was brilliant.

Ange Postecoglou has now lauded the impact that Guglielmo Vicario had for Tottenham Hotspur in their win versus Fulham on Monday.

Although happy with the win, Postecoglou was very disappointed with a sloppy second half showing by his Tottenham side.

And the manager was quick to thank Vicario for ensuring that the result was never really in any doubt.

Postecoglou was speaking to the BBC after the Tottenham game and admitted that he had hoped Vicario would have been less busy against Fulham.

He said: “Outstanding Vic was, really outstanding.

“He had a great save in the first half as well.

“We haven’t needed him a lot this year but when we have he’s been brilliant.

“In the end he was the one who kept a clean sheet for us and kept us in the game.

“I’d like him less busy and could have had him less busy if we had stuck to our game plan.”

Postecoglou expanded on this when speaking to Spurs Play: “Second half we were just really wasteful with the ball, we were really poor, as poor as we were all year.

“Luckily Vic was outstanding in a couple of moments to keep a clean sheet.”

Postecoglou was frustrated at how much Tottenham relied on Vicario against Fulham

Although Postecoglou was disappointed by his team’s performance, it was Son Heung-Min who had regrets about his own conduct.

Son shared after the game that he wasn’t proud of his reaction to being substituted in the 82nd minute.

The skipper was clearly disappointed when his number was held up – something he now regrets.

Of course, despite some things that may need tweaking, it was a very positive night for Spurs.

And although Postecoglou wasn’t happy to see Vicario busy against Fulham, it does bode well that the £17m keeper is up to the task.

It’s a quick turnaround now for Spurs before they travel to Crystal Palace on Friday night.

And Roy Hodgson’s side will surely be in determined mood to improve on an 4-0 drubbing against Newcastle United on Saturday.
