Liverpool are reportedly interested in selling Rhys Williams this summer, with a number of clubs already eyeing the 22-year-old centre-back.
According to the Liverpool Echo, the Reds are open to offloading the England youth international having failed to progress from his memorable 2019/20 campaign, with Aberdeen interested in signing Williams on a permanent deal this summer.
Williams has spent the last two seasons out on loan in the Championship yet has been unable to make much of a name for himself since breaking onto the scene three years ago, with Scotland now a likely destination for the Preston-born defender.
Once labelled by Jurgen Klopp as an ‘outstanding’ player, many Liverpool fans will be sad to see Williams leave Anfield for good should an offer come in for the defender this summer. Yet a permanent exit from Merseyside could be exactly what the youngster needs to kickstart his career.
Indeed, Williams has made little development despite heading out on loan in the last two seasons to Swansea City and Blackpool respectively. And a full-time move from Liverpool could be what’s needed for the youngster to get back to his best and to realise his exciting potential.
Liverpool are right to be looking to sell Williams this summer
Williams once looked like a player with the world at his feet, yet for one reason or another, the Liverpool defender hasn’t been able to kick on from the personal high of the 2019/20 season. Which is why this summer is the perfect opportunity for the centre-back to leave Anfield.
At 22, Williams can’t afford another year out on loan or to be stuck in the Liverpool reserves. And whilst it will hurt to leave his boyhood club, the England youth international knows that his career will get better once he finds a new permanent home where he can ply his trade.
