CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – The Cleveland Guardians on Friday will formally introduce Stephen Vogt, a 2-time AL All-Star and 10-year MLB veteran, as the club’s 45th manager.
Vogt, 39, spent his first coaching season with the Seattle Mariners in 2023 as the Bullpen and Quality Control Coach, according to a Guardians press release.
Vogt comes to Cleveland after Terry Francona stepped out of the dugout for the team.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Stephen and his family to Northeast Ohio and to name him the next manager of the Cleveland Guardians. Stephen earned a reputation as one of the best teammates in the game across his 16-year career as a player, and we’ve greatly enjoyed the opportunity to get to know him over the past several weeks. Stephen has thought critically about the type of leader and manager he wants to be. His deep care for others, his ability to build meaningful relationships with those around him, and his open-mindedness and curiosity make him an ideal fit to lead our club moving forward. We couldn’t be more excited to partner with Stephen.”
Vogt, drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays in 2012, played for the Milwaukee Brewers, San Francisco Giants, Arizona Diamondbacks, Atlanta Braves and Oakland Athletics.
Vogt also was a part of Atlanta’s 2021 World Series Championship team.
The presser with the club’s newest manager starts at 1 p.m.
