Danny Rohl drops January hint after ‘important’ conversation with academy manager.

Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl has dropped a hint on potential January moves after speaking to the academy manager, Steven Haslam.

There has been talk recently about whether more youngsters could be temporarily departing Wednesday to go out on loan, with them hardly being able to get a look in in the Championship under Rohl as the Owls try to avoid relegation.

This comes after the loan move for Luke Jackson to Gainsborough Trinity was extended until the new year after it was initially for a month, and Jay Glover signing on loan with Spennymoor Town for a month in the National League North.

Rohl on potential loan moves

Speaking to Yorkshire Live, Rohl explained how ‘important’ it is for the younger players to go out on loan and get experience playing senior, first-team football.

“Yes I think it’s important that these guys go and get some experience in senior games.

“I think it is different to under-21 games but we have really good communication with Steven and we decided this is maybe the best step for these players to improve them. This is what we have to do as a club: improve the players and make them ready for the first team.”

Loans could be the best move

It’s never easy for the youngsters to break through, with it hard for Rohl to choose them when the team is in a relegation battle, and these non-league loan spells can often be a good route to teams further up the pyramid.

If these players that depart on loan can impress, then they might force their way into Danny Rohl’s first-team plans, or earn themselves a loan move to a team at a higher level, to gain better experience.

Sheffield Wednesday seem to have a few exciting players in the academy and we could see some coming through to the first-team in the next few months for Rohl.

Paterson to miss Blues clash

Callum Paterson will miss the Owls’ trip to Birmingham on Saturday 25 November through suspension.

The forward accrued his fifth yellow card of the season on Saturday against Millwall.

As a result, Paterson receives a one-match ban, ruling him out of the Championship clash at St Andrew’s.
