Leeds United are 16 matches into their Championship season and are now really starting to build up ahead of steam with six wins in seven. Here, we have provided our ratings for each and every player so far this season.
Illan Meslier – 7
Meslier is starting to get somewhere close to his best under Daniel Farke. His match-winning save in stoppage time of the 1-0 win at Leicester City could be a huge moment in the season.
Karl Darlow – 5
Darlow has only featured in the cup games so far but his display against Salford City, particularly in the shootout, means he can’t score above a five.
Luke Ayling – 5
Ayling has really struggled so far this season and has seen his minutes reduced considerably as a result of that. Now behind Djed Spence, Jamie Shackleton and Archie Gray at right-back.
Djed Spence – n/a
Impossible to give him a rating considering he has played just 10 minutes so far this season. He will add so much to this team, though, with his return not far away.
Joe Rodon – 9
Rodon has proved to be an inspired signing this season and has played a key role in Leeds‘ defensive improvement. Good on the ball, strong in the air and is also deceptively quick.
Charlie Cresswell – 5
Has not played much at all since his involvement in the opening two matches and for that reason, can’t score above a five.
Pascal Struijk – 9
One of Leeds’ best players so far this season, Struijk looks as though he is really thriving again under Farke. Had played every minute of every match until last weekend’s win over Plymouth Argyle following surgery on a hernia.
Liam Cooper – 6
A big goal against Cardiff and strong display in the win over Watford is marred by a poor afternoon at Southampton. That said, he is still very decent cover to Leeds’ first choice pairing.
Sam Byram – 9
Byram just continues to look an incredible free transfer with every game he plays. Good at both ends of the pitch, and also an unexpected threat from set-pieces.
Leo Hjelde – 4
Had high hopes for him after his pre-season performances but has just not managed to replicate that form in competitive games, which has seen him drop considerably low in Farke’s pecking order. Loan needed.
Jamie Shackleton – 6
Injuries have seen his minutes reduce considerably over the last few weeks but still a reliable figure for Farke to call upon.
Ethan Ampadu – 9
Continues to ooze class in Leeds’ midfield, having played every minute of every game in league and cup. Arguably player of the season so far.
Archie Gray – 8
Started all but three of Leeds’ matches across all competitions has looked excellent in almost all of them. Having started the season in central midfield, he is now also excelling at right-back as Spence closes in on his return.
Glen Kamara – 8
His man of the match performance at Leicester alone gets him an 8/10. Looks calm and composed every time he plays.
Ilia Gruev – 5
Not as bad as some people suggested in his full debut at Stoke City, in what was a difficult game to come into. Quietly went under the radar to help Leeds see out the win at Leicester, but the only way he can show more of what he’s about is with more minutes.
Darko Gyabi – 4
His only real chance came from the start against Shrewsbury where he really failed to show what he can do, before being hooked at half-time. Now back in the U23s and in need of a loan.
Crysencio Summerville – 9
Just incredible and it is quite clear he is too good for this league. Now on six goals and five assists after a brilliant month in October that saw him win the Championship’s POTM.
Wilfried Gnonto – 5
He has been unable to get going since returning from injury due to the form of Summerville and Dan James. Still has the potential to play a huge role this season.
Ian Poveda – 5
Started the season really well but has seen game time drop off significantly, and with that, his impact in matches off the bench.
Dan James – 8
Proving many people wrong with some really strong, consistent performances. Four goals and four assists now for the Welshman – a very solid return.
Jaidon Anthony – 6
Has often looked dangerous from the bench but he will be very disappointed with his performance in his only recent start against Stoke. Again, the form of others has restricted his minutes.
Joe Gelhardt – 4
Gelhardt is in desperate need of a loan move as he now struggles to make the bench when everyone is fit. Disappointing to see his Leeds career go this way.
Joel Piroe – 7
Back amongst the goals against Plymouth after a run of four without one. His link-up play seems to be getting better by the week, though.
Georginio Rutter – 9
Continues to be a joy to watch. Comfortably created the most big chances in the division and has a decent return of three goals and five assists. Would be a 10 if he could finish.
Patrick Bamford – 3
His costly miss from the spot at Stoke means, unfortunately, he can’t get above a three. A couple of decent cameos from the bench, but still yet to start this season.
