Great News For Steelers As LB T.J. Watt Takes Step Toward Return.

PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers got some optimistic news during their second day of practice as outside linebacker T.J. Watt took a step forward in his return from concussion protocol.

Watt was a full participant during the team’s second day of practice after being limited to open the week. The progression should indicate he’s moving closer to a return, but he will still need to be cleared by an independent neurologist before clearing protocol and being able to play against the Indianapolis Colts.

Meanwhile, Watt’s running mate Alex Highsmith remains a limited participant in practice as he tries to return from a concussion as well. Both players entered the protocol the day after their Week 14 loss to the New England Patriots.

Highsmith left in-game against New England with what was originally ruled a neck injury. He then entered protocol the next morning.

Both players will need to be cleared before Saturday in order to play. If neither or one does not go, rookie Nick Herbig is expected to start, with Markus Golden starting as well if Watt and Highsmith are inactive.
