USC wide receiver Mario Williams officially entered the NCAA Transfer Portal Friday. Williams is the second Trojans’ receiver to enter the portal along with Michael Jackson III. Overall, Williams is the 11th scholarship Trojan to seek transfer this month.

This is Williams’ second time in the portal, joining USC last offseason after spending his freshman season at Oklahoma, following head coach Lincoln Riley and quarterback Caleb Williams. He was the No. 9 recruit and No. 2 receiver in the 2022 transfer cycle.

The former Top 50 prospect was an impact player in 2022, third on the team with 40 receptions for 631 yards and five scores, all career highs, in 12 games with nine starts. Williams was poised for a huge junior season, but he took a step back in 2023 as he struggled with consistency throughout the year. A part-time starter, he finished with 29 receptions for 305 yards and two scores in 12 games, fourth on the team.

The 5-foot-9, 175-pound Williams ends his USC career with 69 receptions for 936 yards and seven touchdowns in 24 games. Overall, he hits the transfer market with 104 career receptions, 1,316 yards and 11 scores.

The departure of Williams reinforces the need for the Trojans to add some experienced depth to the receiver room for next season; on top of Williams and Jackson III, USC is losing this year’s top two leading receivers, Brenden Rice and Tahj Washington. USC’s young talent at receiver is some of the best in the nation with first-team All-American returner Zachariah Branch, former five-star Duce Robinson, Ja’Kobi Lane and potentially Makai Lemon, who moved to cornerback late in the year to help with depth.
