The Denver Broncos appear to be done with the Russell Wilson experiment as head coach Sean Payton said he would be benched for the remainder of the 2023 NFL season.
Wilson was playing poorly during the Broncos’ recent 1-3 stretch and it earned him a spot on the sidelines where he’ll watch backup quarterback Jarrett Stidham.
It’s a disappointing end to Wilson’s stint in Denver as the organization sent a haul to the Seattle Seahawks to land him.
Things never quite clicked with the Broncos as Wilson looked like a shell of himself and despite some highlight-worthy moments this season, it wasn’t enough to get the team over the hump.
There were reports that Wilson’s benching was also partly because the quarterback was unwilling to defer the injury-guaranteed date in his contract.
It looks like the NFLPA will now look to take legal action via The Washington Post.
Denver could be in trouble if the NFLPA goes through with any sort of legal action, though it still doesn’t change that Wilson’s future with the team is coming to an end.
This will be something to monitor over the next few weeks.
