Mike Vrabel remains a free agent on the coaching market. And while he’s had interviews with other teams, one NFC team in need of a new head coach hasn’t reached out: The Washington Commanders.
“As for the 48-year-old Vrabel, one NFC personnel executive called it ‘a real mystery’ and ‘ridiculous’ that he apparently hasn’t even gotten a sniff from the Commanders — at least not yet,” FOX Sports’ Ralph Vacchiano wrote. “He’s coming off a relatively successful six-year run in Tennessee where he went 54-45, had four winning seasons, three playoff berths and took the Titans to the AFC Championship Game in 2019.
“‘He’s one of the most respected coaches in the league and there’d be no learning curve with him,’” the executive said. “‘If they bring him in for an interview they’d never let him leave.’”
Vrabel, the 2022 Coach of the Year, was fired by the Tennessee Titans after six seasons. While two consecutive losing seasons and missing the playoffs could have factored into the decision to move on from the 48-year-old, his comments during his New England Patriots Hall of Fame ceremony at Gillette Stadium did him no favors with the organization.
