LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Before the NFL Draft gets underway, one of the top pre-draft events every year is the Reese’s Senior Bowl down in Mobile, Ala. It’s an all-star exhibition that allows some of the top upperclassmen in college football to put their talents on display in front of NFL scouts.
The Louisville football program has a handful of players taking part in the 2024 Senior Bowl, and one of their top defensive playmakers from this past season is having a tremendous week of practice before the actual game this weekend.
During the second of three practice days this past Wednesday, former Cardinals cornerback Jarvis Brownlee took advantage of this opportunity to improve his draft stock, and put together one of the best practice sessions of the week up to that point.
“Brownlee is one of the lesser-known defensive backs in Mobile this year, but he certainly gained a lot more fans after his dominance on Day 2,” PFF’s Trevor Sikkema wrote. “The 5-foot-10, 183-pound cornerback had three one-on-one reps in a row where he not only won but also played coverage so tight that he intercepted the pass. Toledo’s Quinyon Mitchell has had the best week of any cornerback, but another solid showing from Brownlee on Day 3 will make him the next name to praise from this cornerback group.”
Not only did his performance on Wednesday earn the attention of NFL scouts and other draft experts, it also caught the attention of one of the NFL’s top cornerbacks in Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner.
“Great patience, great eyes, and great finish in both reps,” Gardner posted on Twitter. “I do think he could widen his base pre-snap (just a little bit) since he immediately widens his base when the WR moves. I’m not a CB guru at all; just throwing some free game out there.”
While he was somewhat limited in the final few games of the 2023 season due to a foot injury, Brownlee was still among one of the best cornerbacks in the ACC. In 11 games and nine starts this season, the 6-foot, 190-pound corner logged 30 tackles, one for loss, six pass breakups, an interception and a fumble recovery.
Third and final day of practice is set to begin today. The 2024 iteration of the Senior Bowl is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 3 at 12:00 p.m. EST on the NFL Network.
