Both of USC’s 2023 starting cornerbacks (Domani Jackson and Christian Roland-Wallace) won’t be on the team in 2024, but fear not, the Trojans have added some much needed cornerback depth by signing Isaiah Rubin.
Rubin, who stands at 6-foot-1 and weighs 170 pounds, verbally committed to USC in October and officially signed with the school Wednesday. He attends Los Alamitos High School in Orange County and is a consensus four-star prospect.
The USC staff’s goal in the 2024 cycle was to bring in three cornerbacks, and they’ve done that with the additions of Rubin, Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco corner Marcelles Williams and Humble (Texas) Atascocita corner Braylon Conley.
In terms of next season’s depth chart, Jacobe Covington, Prophet Brown and Maliki Crawford are the only returning corners on the roster. Tre’Quon Fegans will be back too, but he played primarily nickelback this season. Ceyair Wright‘s availability for next season is currently unknown. From the transfer portal, USC has added former UCLA cornerback John Humphrey and former Mississippi State cornerback DeCarlos Nicholson.
Rubin will face an uphill battle for playing time in his freshman season. There is also a chance the Los Alamitos product plays safety in college, so where he lines up early in his career will be something to watch.
Rubin’s relationship with former defensive backs coach Donte Williams played a big role in his commitment. With Williams now coaching at Georgia, USC being Rubin’s childhood favorite school helped to secure his signature.
“I grew up a USC fan,” he said when he committed. “Me and my dad both grew up fans and it was always the dream for me to go and play at USC and be a Trojan one day so this is definitely an exciting time for me.”
Rubin is the No. 474 ranked prospect nationally in the 2024 247Sports composite. He’s the No. 41 cornerback and the No. 36 ranked player in California.
