The St George Illawarra Dragons said they were thrilled to announce the acquisition of Luciano Leilua, who joined the team on a three-year deal.
They weren’t as thrilled when they found the NRL is investigating him after the new recruit failed to alert his previous club-North Queensland of a low level drink driving charge.
It’s not the biggest crime but the lack of disclosure from Leilua is likely to be met with punishment by the NRL considering the strict guidelines the league has in place.
Luciano Leilua returned to the club last week after being granted an early release from the remaining two years on his North Queensland Cowboys contract.
However, the new Dragons backrower may have to wait to make his second debut in the Red V jersey as he has been placed under investigation by the NRL Integrity Unit for failing to disclose a recent drink driving charge to his former club.
Early in February, Leilua appeared at Townsville Magistrates Court to answer a low-level drink driving charge which resulted in the 27-year-old receiving a fine and one-month driving suspension after he pleaded guilty.
