Maple Leafs coach Sheldon Keefe has heard the speculation that the club is on the verge of signing defenceman Cade Webber.

“That hasn’t come across my desk in terms of what that looks like or potential of that,” Keefe said. “I don’t even know if anything’s finalized at this point. It’s not on my radar at this point.”

The Athletic reported on Friday night that the 23-year-old Webber, whose rights were acquired from the Carolina Hurricanes in March for a sixth-round pick in 2026, was about to sign with the Leafs and would join the team for its final trip of the regular season, a back-to-back set in Florida and Tampa Bay, respectively, on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The 6-foot-7, 210-pound Webber became available after Boston University was eliminated from the Frozen Four.

Drafted by the Hurricanes in the fourth round, 99th overall, in 2019, Webber scored one goal and had 15 assists in 123 games during four seasons at Boston University.
